Do Republican and Democratic Legislators have Polarized Views of their District's Demographics? was authored by Adam M. Dynes and Daniel Butler. It was published by Sage in R&P in 2020.

This study investigates whether Republican and Democratic state legislators hold polarized views on their district's demographic makeup.

➡️ We surveyed legislators about five key demographic groups (excluding race/ethnicity) in their districts, comparing responses to actual data.

➡️ Findings reveal misperceptions exist across party lines for some demographics like education level or income distribution.

➡️ Importantly, partisan differences do not explain these demographic misperceptions.

This suggests potential common ground between parties on factual issues unrelated to racial and ethnic groups.
